Where to take hazardous waste

Residents and eligible businesses in King County can drop off hazardous waste at four fixed collection facilities and a traveling Wastemobile. Disposal service is covered in your utility bills so there is no additional fee.

Note: Collection facilities do not accept special wastes such as latex paint, tires, electronics, or medications. To learn more about how to safely dispose of these items, call the Haz Waste Help Line at 206-296-4692, or look up the item on our product search tool.

Home collection program

If you are 65 years or older, or a person with a disability and you do not have a vehicle or are otherwise unable to access a hazardous waste collection site, we’ll pick up unwanted hazardous products at your home and safely dispose of them. You will not be charged a fee when your items are collected.

To schedule a pick-up, call the Haz Waste Help Line (206-296-4692) from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday (except holidays).  Please be ready to provide the types and amounts of waste you have for collection.

To ensure the health of customers and collection staff, residents will need to follow these COVID protocols:

- Wastes should be sealed and placed upright in boxes. Regular collection limits still apply.

- Place your hazardous waste in a safe place outside the front of your home on the scheduled pick-up date. For multifamily homes (i.e., apartments), place your hazardous waste outside your unit door just prior to staff arrival. Do not put hazardous waste on the curb.

- A staff member will call you when they arrive to pick up your hazardous waste. You will be asked to stay inside your home. A staff member will accept verbal or non-verbal signals (i.e., a nod or wave) to confirm the pickup service.

The home collection staff does not collect other special wastes such as latex paint, tires, electronics, or medications. To learn more about how to safely dispose of these items, call the Haz Waste Help Line at 206-296-4692, or look up the item on our product search tool
