Disposal for households 


Accepted at hazardous waste collection sites

Accepted batteries include alkaline, button, cellphone (removable), laptop, lead-acid, rechargeable, and car batteries

  • Limit 5 lead acid auto or marine batteries per visit (batteries from electric vehicles are not accepted)
  • Maximum for a single non-auto or marine battery is 25 lbs. (lithium, other rechargeables or alkaline)
  • 50 pound total weight limit for any combination of non-auto batteries per visit.

Individually package or put tape on the ends of lithium or rechargeable batteries to prevent a fire hazard.


NOTE: As of January 1, 2024, batteries may no longer be thrown in the garbage in areas served by Seattle Public Utilities. Please follow the guidance on this page and take any batteries for disposal to a hazardous waste collection facility, arrange for a special item pick-up through Seattle Public Utilities, or work with a local battery recycling organization.   • South Seattle
    Thursday – Saturday

    Located next to the transfer station.

  • Factoria
    Tuesday – Friday, Saturday and Sunday

    13800 SE 32nd St. Bellevue, WA 98005
    8 a.m. – 4 p.m. (Tues-Fri), 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. (Sat-Sun)

    The Factoria facility is located at the transfer station. Closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Years Day.

  • Auburn
    Saturday – Sunday

    1101 Outlet Collection Way, Auburn, WA 98001
    10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

    The Auburn Wastemobile location is open on weekends, year-round. Marine flares are not accepted at this location.
    Located near the loading dock of Nordstrom Rack. In 2024, this location is closed Nov. 30, Dec. 1 and Dec. 28-29.
